Cymaenes edata (Plötz, 1882) View in CoL , reinstated status

Hesperia edata Plötz, 1882 View in CoL (type locality Venezuela: La Guaira) was treated by Evans (1955) as a subspecies of Cymaenes odilia (Burmeister, 1878) View in CoL (type locality Argentina), but it is not monophyletic with it. As we have shown above, C. odilia View in CoL is a junior subjective synonym of Cymaenes lumina ( Herrich-Schäffer, 1869) ( Fig. 14 View Figure 14 ). Instead, in the genomic tree, C. o. edata View in CoL is sister to Cymaenes isus (Godman, 1900) View in CoL (type locality Mexico: Guerrero). Therefore, we reinstate Cymaenes edata (Plötz, 1882) View in CoL as a species. With this action, and pending further studies, we follow Llorente et al. (1990) in considering North American C. isus View in CoL (formerly C. trebius View in CoL ) a species distinct from South American C. edata View in CoL (formerly within C. odilia View in CoL ).
