Distribution: — Mexico (Chis, DF, Jal, Méx, Mich, Pue, Ver), Guatemala.
Representative specimens from Veracruz: —Calcahualco: M. Nee & G. Diggs 24843 (MO, UC, XAL). Perote: H. Narave F. 823 (MEXU, XAL). Xico: H. Narave F. & M. Nee 177 (XAL).
Ecology: — Saxicolous ; in central Veracruz in shaded crevices and on cliffs in fir ( Abies ) and pine forests, and alpine vegetation between 3200–3950 m .
Conservation status: — Endangered ( EN) B2 ab(ii,iii) in Veracruz. Known from only five specimens (AOO: 124 km 2) made between 1982–1993 at the upper slopes of Cofre de Perote and Pico de Orizaba volcanoes in central Veracruz, both of which are located within National Parks and thus somewhat protected, but still under high anthropogenic pressure. Specimens examined: 5; TK collections: 0 .
Note: —Several examined specimens were previously identified as Terpsichore heteromorpha Hooker & Greville (1829 : t. 108) Smith (1993: 486), now Alansmia heteromorpha (Hook. & Grev.) Moguel & M. Kessler (in Kessler et al. 2011: 240), however, this species is confined to Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
