Distribution: — Mexico (Chis, Oax, Ver), Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Lesser Antilles; Colombia, Venezuela, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia; Madagascar.

Representative specimens from Veracruz: —Mecayapan: M. Vázquez T. et al. 4103 (CIB, XAL). San Andrés Tuxtla: T. Krömer & A. Acebey 2164 (EBT, MEXU, SEL, UC, XAL). Totutla: C.A. Purpus 206 ( US).

Ecology: — Epiphytic; in Los Tuxtlas area and central Veracruz in (lower) montane rain forests between 740–1010 m .

Conservation status: — Endangered ( EN) B2 ab(ii,iii) in Veracruz. Although known from two recent collections (AOO: 94.3 km 2) made at the slopes of San Martín Tuxtla volcano, which is somewhat protected because it forms part of the nuclear zones of the Los Tuxtlas Biosphere Reserve , the area still remains under anthropogenic pressure.
