Distribution: — Mexico (Chis, DF, Gro, Hgo, Jal, Mor, Mich, Oax, Tlax, Ver), Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, S Brazil, Bolivia.

Representative specimens from Veracruz: —Calcahualco: J.L. Martínez & F. Vázquez 820 (XAL). Las Vigas de Ramírez: H. Narave F. & R. Ortega O. 599 (XAL). Orizaba?: F.Mueller29 (NY). Xico: M. Palacios R. 2746 (XAL). Zacualpan: R. Ortega O. et al. 2669 (XAL).

Ecology: — Terrestrial and saxicolous on mossy rocks; in central Veracruz in fir ( Abies ), pine, and pineoak forests between 2150–2950 m .

Conservation status: — Endangered ( EN) B2 ab(ii,iii) in Veracruz. Known from 10 specimens (AOO: 158.9 km 2), however, the most recent was made in 1998 and six others between 1981 and 1986 at only five different localities in fir, pine, and pine-oak forests of central Veracruz, which are still under high anthropogenic pressure and not included inside Veracruz’ protected areas network.
