Ilyocypris monstrifica (Norman, 1862)
( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 A)
Ilyocypris monstrifica was thus far only recorded from the Palaearctic region, most of them from European countries ( Meisch 1988, 2000, Savatenalinton & Martens 2011). The present record of I. monstrifica is the first one for the Oriental region. This species is rare in a particular area. In Italy, it was reported as a species with a limited distribution ( Rossetti et al. 2006). Although in this investigation, it was encountered in 7 localities (32% of the sampled localities) with a total of 24 female specimens, the extensive survey of ostracods in 9 provinces which covers about half of Northeastern part of the country shows that I. monstrifica is rare in this region as it was found in only one locality from 111 examined localities (Savatenalinton, 2010, 2012, 2013). In the present study, it occurs at a water temperature range of 26.3–32.9 °C, a DO range of 3.55–5.89 mg /L and a pH range of 6.5–7.2. The range of its habitats thus far includes both lotic and lentic environments: artificial lakes, canals ( Rossetti et al. 2006), ponds ( Rossetti et al. 2004), small oxbow lakes and rivers (present study).
