Distribution: Global: Middle America; from northern Nicaragua to northeastern Costa Rica, Atlantic drainages; Costa Rica: LN, RF, SJ, SC, Sa, To, Pa, Ma (Atlantic) and Be (Pacific), 0– 600 m.a.s.l., Pri, Pot.

Occurrence and conservation status: Nat,LC.

Remarks: This Atlantic species has been translocated to the Pacific (from the San Carlos River basin to the Bebedero River basin) as result of the transport of water for irrigation and aquaculture purposes carried out by private and governmental entities.
