Pseudactium jaitlynum Owens and Carlton View in CoL , new species

( Figs. 9–11 View Figs View Fig )

Type Material. Holotype, male: USA: ALABAMA: Madison Co., Huntsville, MonteSano IV: 4-8: 1967 S. Peck / Trap #232 Bait Forest : Putrescine Bait. ( FMNH) . Paratypes, two males: USA: ALABAMA: Madison Co., Huntsville, MonteSano

IV: 4-8: 1967 S. Peck/ Trap #232 Bait Forest: Putrescine Bait. ( LSAM).

Etymology. The specific epithet is a combination of the first names of the first author’ s younger brother and his wife, Jace and Caitlyn Owens, in celebration of their marriage.

Diagnosis. The absence of tubercles or spines on the mesocoxa/metacoxa and the mesotrochanter/ metatrochanters, as well as the presence of small, carinate lateral processes on ventrite III, distinguish this species from all species in the genus except P. arcuatum and P. stannardi . The form of the aedeagus is unique, with the elongate process distally expanded and curved to the left, and the digitate accessory process arising from the right side of the phallobase bearing a lateral row of two larger and many smaller digits along the internal edge ( Fig. 11 View Fig ).

Description. Male. Measurements: HL = 0.17 mm, HW = 0.29 mm; PL = 0.30 mm, PW = 0.30 mm; EL = 0.40 mm, EW = 0.48 mm; A1–6, respectively, = 0.04, 0.07, 0.13, 0.09, 0.15, 0.03 mm; An1–11, respectively, = 0.04, 0.04, 0.02, 0.02, 0.02, 0.02, 0.02, 0.02, 0.03, 0.03, 0.07 mm; MP1–4, respectively, = 0.01, 0.02, 0.01, 0.02 mm; GL = 0.41 mm, GW = 0.25 mm; ML = 2.2 mm. Integument: Head, pronotum, elytra, and abdomen light brown, appendages light brown to yellow. Entire surface covered with semierect pubescence. Pubescence in gular area longer, capitate. Head: Eyes well-developed, comprised of about 30 facets each. Thorax: Metacoxae with small, carinate ridge. Abdomen: Ventrite III with small, crenulate sublateral processes. Ventrite VII forming rounded-ovoid penial plate. Genitalia: Aedeagus asymmetrical. Elongate process narrow, flattened, distally expanded towards the left. Accessory digitate process arising from right side of the phallobase, bearing row of 2 larger and many smaller spines apically along inner face. Smaller, lateral process along right side of basal bulb bearing single elongate setae and two, smaller setae.

Female. Unknown.
