Type material: Holotype ZMB /Moll—61021.

Type locality: Southern Indian Ocean , New Amsterdam I., 37°47'S, 77°33'7"E, 496 m [ Valdivia, Deutsche Tiefsee-Expedition, Sta. 167] ( Fig. 5) GoogleMaps .

Remarks: The species so far is known from a single dead collected specimen with a shell length of 17.6 mm (based on the original drawing, specimen not seen). Judging from the shell sculpture with a row of very characteristic subsutural knobs, its assignment to Belomitra , suspected by Bouchet and Warén (1986), is confirmed. It is most similar to B. admete n. sp. from much greater depths in the northern Indian Ocean (see under that species).

Mangelia problematica Thiele, 1925 was listed in error by Tucker (2004) as being a nomen novum for " Mangilia exsculpta Dall, 1889 " non Pleurotoma (Drillia) exsculpta Watson, 1882 [a junior objective synonym of Belomitra pourtalesii ( Dall, 1881) ]. Dall did not establish a new nominal species, but identified his material with Watson's species and classified it in Mangelia .
