Belomitra climacella ( Dall, 1895) — Bouchet and Warén 1986: 474, fig. 76 (“ holotype ” illlustrated); Severns, 2011: pl. 107, fig. 12 (“ lectotype ” illustrated).

Type material: Lectotype, here designated, USNM 127123. Bouchet and Warén (1986) illustrated a type specimen as “ holotype ”. Since the type lot contains two specimens (as stated in the original description), under ICZN Art. 74.5, erroneous usage of the term “ holotype ” does not constitute a valid lectotype designation. Severns (2011) illustrated the same specimen as “ lectotype ” (in captions to plate) without any statement, which makes it an invalid lectotype designation under Art. 74.7.3. We are unaware of any valid lectotype designation and therefore we designate here the illustrated specimen ( Fig. 3F–G) as lectotype.

Type locality: Off the Hawaiian Islands, 21°08’N, 157°43’W, 640 m [Albatross sta. 3475] ( Fig. 6) .

Remarks: Belomitra climacella is still known only from the original type lot. Conchologically it is rather distinct from other known tropical Indo-Pacific Belomitra . It however strongly resembles B. aoteana from New Zealand, and the two were synonymized by Bouchet and Warén (1986).
