Type locality: Zapata swamp is located in Matanzas province, Cuba. Within the area there is a canal, named “Canal de los Patos”, on the west side of the road to Girón Beach at about 7 km from the National Highway. The specimens were collected on the south shore of the canal at 600 m. from the road and about 5 m. from the shore line at 22° 25’29 N, 81° 08’ 52 W.
Etymology: The specific epithet is a patronymic, based on the Latinized surname of the fictional Don Quijote, immortalized in the famous novel "Don Quijote de la Mancha" written by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra and first published in 1605. This species is named to commemorate the 400th anniversary of publication of this important piece of Spanish literature.
