Type Locality: Argentina, Buenos Aires, "Les Pampas" south of Río de la Plata between 35° and 36° south ( Azara, 1801:164).
Vernacular Names: Big Hairy Armadillo.
Synonyms: Chaetophractus octocinctus ( Molina 1782) ; Chaetophractus pilosus (Larrañaga 1923) .
Distribution: Gran Chaco of Bolivia, Paraguay, and Argentina south to Santa Cruz, Argentina, and Magallanes, Chile.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
