( Figs. 6–10 View FIGURES 6 – 10 )
Diagnosis. Ocellar triangle yellow, smooth, main portion of triangle only two-thirds as long as frons, with a brown spot on anterior apex, and also with a black medial sulcus from ocellar tubercle to anterior margin of frons; ocellar tubercle black. 1st antennal segment yellow, 2nd antennal segment brown, 3rd antennal segment nearly rounded, black; arista black. Hypandrium relatively broad in lateral view; pregonite nearly as long as gonostylus, broadly attached to hypandrium anteriorly; gonostylus dichotomous posteriorly; distiphallus perpendicular to phallic guide, dichotomous anteriorly.
Description. Male. Body length 1.9–2.7 mm. Wing length 1.0– 1.4 mm.
Head yellow, nearly as long as high; frons about 0.75 times as wide as long, projecting only slightly in front of eye; gena narrowed, about 0.7 times as high as 3rd antennal segment, vibrissal angle obtuse. Ocellar triangle yellow, smooth, main portion of triangle only two-thirds as long as frons, with a brown spot on anterior apex, and also with a black medial sulcus from ocellar tubercle to anterior margin of frons; ocellar tubercle black. Setae on head black, setulae yellow. Oc proclinate and divergent; vte and vti developed. Eyes covered mini setulae sparsely. 1st antennal segment yellow, 2nd antennal segment brown, 3rd antennal segment nearly rounded, black; arista black. Proboscis yellow, with yellow setulae; palpus black with black setulae.
Thorax narrower than head, yellow. Thoracic pleuron shinning yellow except for postpronotum with a black spot; region below prothoracic spiracle with a brownish spot; each anterior and lower margins of anepisternum with a black spot; anepimeron with a faint brownish spot on anteroventral region; katepisternum with black lower portion; katepimeron with a black spot on lower margin, covered with tiny pale setulae; postnotum black; scutum about 1.3 times as long as wide, covered with long setulae and pale pollen, with 5 black stripes; scutellum yellow, about 2.0 times as wide as long. Setae and setulae on thorax black. Legs long and thin, yellow, except for tarsomeres 4–5 brown. Wing hyaline, veins dark brown. Relative lengths of costal sections 2nd: 3rd: 4th = 18: 18: 14. Squama yellow with yellow setulae. Halteres bright yellow.
Abdomen yellow. Each tergum with brownish anterior margin. Setulae on abdomen black.
Male genitalia ( Figs. 8–10 View FIGURES 6 – 10 ): epandrium yellow, with black setulae; surstylus short, less than 0.5 times as high as epandrium, with posterior region short hook-like, curved backward, dark, with tiny process; mesolobus with 3 pairs of setulae; hypandrium relatively broad in lateral view; pregonite nearly as long as gonostylus, broadly attached to hypandrium anteriorly; gonostylus dichotomous posteriorly; distiphallus perpendicular to phallic guide, dichotomous anteriorly.
Female. Unknown.
Type material. Holotype 3, CHINA: Gansu: Xinglongshan, 20. VIII. 2007, Shan Huo. Paratypes 2 3, same as holotype; 3 3, Ningxia: Liupanshan, 17. VII. 2007, Gang Yao.
Distribution. China (Gansu, Ningxia).
Remarks. The new species is somewhat similar to Chlorops rufinus (Zetterstedt, 1848) from Europe, Japan, and Russia in the ocellar triangle yellow, smooth, main portion of the triangle two-thirds as long as the frons, with a brown spot on anterior apex. But it can be separated from the latter by the 2nd antennal segment brown, 3rd antennal segment black; the arista black; the scutum with 5 black stripes; the gonostylus dichotomous posteriorly; and the distiphallus perpendicular to the phallic guide, dichotomous anteriorly. In C. rufinus (Zetterstedt) , the 2nd and 3rd antennal segments are yellow; the arista is white; the scutum has 5 reddish-yellow stripes; the gonostylus is tapered posteriorly; and the distiphallus is not perpendicular to the phallic guide, not dichotomous anteriorly ( Kanmiya, 1983).
Etymology. The species is named after the type locality Gansu province.
