Coelinius carmenae Figueroa, Sánchez, and Kula , n. sp.

( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 a–d)

Diagnosis. Distinguished from all other described Nearctic species of Coelinius sensu Wharton (1994) by the combination of head elongate (length in dorsal view 1.20–1.23× width at eye); head and mesosoma dark colored, and tergum I brownish yellow; notauli incomplete; propodeum reticulate rugose to foveolate without median longitudinal carina; tergum I 3.81–4.13× as long as apical width; and body length 6.75–6.85 mm.

Description. Female. Body length: 6.75–6.85 mm. Fore wing length: 3.70–3.85 mm. Color: Head and mesosoma black; ovipositor sheath brown; tergum I and ovipositor brownish yellow; eye silver; scape and pedicel yellow, antennal flagellomeres yellow basally gradually transitioning to entirely brown from midpoint to apex; maxillary and labial palps yellow; legs yellow except the hind femur almost entirely brown, apical one-third of hind tibia and entire hind tarsus brown, middle tarsus yellowish brown, and front tarsus brownish yellow; parastigma, pterostigma, and veins brown; metasoma brown except sterna I–III and terga II+III yellow.

Head: Elongate, length in dorsal view 1.20–1.23× width at eye; temple in lateral view 1.57× as long as eye. First flagellomere length 4.67–5.19× width, first flagellomere 1.19–1.33× longer than second; face 1.54–1.57× as wide as high, wrinkled and with punctures at setal bases; midridge weakly elevated to absent ventrally; penultimate segment of labial palp hatchet-shaped, slightly larger than last segment; labial palpus with four palpomeres; antenna with 45–48 flagellomeres, third flagellomere 2.66–3.00× as long as wide, tenth flagellomere 1.50–1.75× as long as wide.

Mesosoma: Mesosoma elongate, with punctures at setal bases, about 2.73× as long as high; posterior portion of mesonotal lateral lobes smooth and shiny with very sparse setae; pronope present; lateral pronotal areas crenulate and rugose-punctate, entirely setose; central lobe of mesoscutum setose; notauli incomplete and crenulate, reaching midpoint of mesoscutum but not terminating into crenulate median furrow (midpit); scutellar disc smooth with sparse setae peripherally, glabrous medially; subalar lobe separated from rest of mesopleuron by crenulate groove; hind coxa setose; propodeum reticulate rugose to foveolate without median longitudinal carina; hind femur about 4.00× as long as wide. First radial segment of fore wing about 1.20× width of stigma, arising distinctly distal of mid-stigma, remainder of radius evenly curved, not sinuate.

Metasoma: Tergum I 3.81–4.13× as long as apical width, longitudinally strigose throughout; dorsope moderately shallow, margined by dorsal carinae; tergum II with anterior portion rugulose and the rest weakly coriaceous; fourth and fifth segments weakly compressed laterally; terga II+III 0.75–0.89× as long as length of remainder of metasoma; ovipositor sheath barely exserted, setiferous apically; ovipositor sheaths 0.24 mm.

Male. Similar to female except coloration of flagellomeres and tergum I. First three flagellomeres yellowish brown and tergum I entirely brownish yellow (as in female) to mostly brown except brownish yellow posteriorly and peripherally. Length of body 7.35–8.30 mm; antenna with 53–57 flagellomeres; head length in dorsal view 1.16–1.37× eye width; mesosoma 2.57–2.71× as long as high; tergum I 3.66–4.28× as long as apical width.

Host. Unknown.
