Oryzomys xanthaeolus Thomas 1894 View in CoL
Oryzomys xanthaeolus Thomas 1894 View in CoL , Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., ser. 6, 14: 354.
Type Locality: Perú, Piura Dept., Tumbez.
Vernacular Names: Yellowish Oryzomys.
Synonyms: Oryzomys baroni J. A. Allen 1897 ; Oryzomys ica Osgood 1944 .
Distribution: WC Ecuador to W Perú.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Probable mainland relative of O. galapagoensis ( Gardner and Patton, 1976; Patton and Hafner, 1983). Nongeographic variation in sample from NW Perú evaluated by Lavrenchenko (1994), who documented pronounced sexual dimorphism and commented on its evolutionary significance. Stomach morphology and diet reported by Guabloche et al. (2002) for Peruvian population. Possible species status of ica deserves evaluation.
