Diagnosis. See Engel & Morris (1991: 124).

Remarks. Engel & Morris (1991) re-diagnosed Namuropyge Richter & Richter 1939 on a combination of the diagnoses from Hahn et al. (1980) and Owens (1986). Engel & Morris (1991) remarked that Namuropyge had been placed within the Aulacopleurinae by Thomas & Owens (1978), but they opted to classify Namuropyge within Cyphaspidinae Pribyl 1947 (sensu Hahn et al. (1989b). Adrain & Chatterton (1994) placed the genus into the Otarioninae Richter & Richter 1926 based on identical cephalic spine patterns between the genera of the subfamily ( Lerosey-Aubril et al. 2008). The classification of Adrain & Chatterton (1994) has been retained here.

Age and distribution. Tournaisian to Westphalian in Australia, China, Europe and North America ( Engel & Morris 1991; Hahn & Hahn 1969; Hahn et al. 1989b).
