Diagnosis. This species group is defined by the following suite of characters: an angular gill slit; presence of a shallow subopercular groove, which extends to the pectoral fin origin; absence of scales on belly; absence of a secondary rostrum; absence of a postoral pouch; and presence of brightly coloured fins in life. Gastromyzon punctulatus ZBK is characterized by yellow dorsal, anal and caudal fins, and reddish top and bottom margins to the caudal fin. Gastromyzon aeroides ZBK is characterized by blue dorsal, anal and caudal fins.
