FAMILY LYGAEIDAE View in CoL SCHILLING
MARÍA DEL CARMEN COSCARÓN
Listed below are Argentina records for 34 species in 15 genera.
Anyone beginning studies within the Lygaeidae should first consult Slater’s (1964) catalog, Slater and O’Donnell’s (1995) additions and updates to Slater’s catalog, and Henry’s (1997) phylogenetic study of the family.
The classical grouping of taxonomic categories in this family was changed by Henry’s (1997a). That work retained the subfamilies Ischonorhynchinae, Lygaeinae , and Orsillinae as members of Lygaeidae , but removed the other suprageneric taxa to new positions, as follows: Artheneinae to family; Bledionotinae and Henestarinae to subfamilies in the newly elevated Geocoridae ; Blissinae to family, Cyminae to the two families Cymidae and Ninidae ; Geocorinae to family: Heterogastrinae to family; Oxycareninae to family; Pachygronthinae to family; Psamminae to subfamily status under the family Piesmatidae ; Rhyparochromidae to family. It also includes a key (pages 297–298) to the 15 families of the superfamily Lygaeoidea .
