Type species: Chiton laevis sensu Montagu 1803 (non Pennant, 1777) = Callochiton septemvalvis ( Montagu, 1803) (fide Kaas 1978), subsequently designated by Gray (1847b).

Distribution: Tropical and subtropical regions of the Indo-Pacific. In the Atlantic Ocean restricted to the eastern part and to the subantarctic part. Neogene – Recent.
