Diagnosis. A species of the subgenus Pterygotrigla with a patch of scales on the prepectoral area, lacking scales on the nape, breast, and interpelvic area, cleithral spine short (8.8–9.5% SL), interorbital narrow (6.3–7.9% SL), P1 12+3. No indication of hyperostosis.

Material examined. Holotype WAM P26270-004, 1(174 mm SL), Indian Ocean, Western Australia, 230 km NW of Beagle Bay, 15o30’S, 120o58’E, FRV Courageous, shot 0781, P. Brown et al., 28 June1978, 280– 320 m. Paratypes WAM P26270-004, 2(155–156 mm SL), taken with the holotype.

Distribution. Single location - Indian Ocean, Western Australia, 230 km north-west of Beagle Bay, 15°30’S, 120°58’E.
