This holarctic genus is the most species rich in the family Aeolothripidae , including about 112 species worldwide (ThripsWiki 2023). Members of the genus can be distinguished from other genera of the family by this combination of characters: antennal segment III about two times longer than II; antennal segments V–IX joined closely; sensorium longitudinally linear along the segment; maxillary palps 3-segmented, labial palp 4-segmented; fore wings usually banded abdominal sternites without discal setae.
