Malva anodaeformis
Lagasca (1824: 2) described Malva anodaeformis on plants collected between San Juan de Alfarache (now “Aznalfarache”) and Tomares, and between Coria del Río and Coto del Rey, near Sevilla (south-western Spain). By the description in the protologue, we fully agree with Kerguélen (1999), and Nogueira & Paiva (2005) about the identification of M. anodaeformis with M. cretica subsp. althaeoides . R. Noya Santos (pers. comm.) informed us that probably no Lagasca’s specimen exists, at least nowadays. We selected as the neotype of the name a specimen collected by Simón de Rojas Clemente near San Juan de Aznalfarache, as demonstrated by the handwriting of the original label. However, note that a posterior label erroneously attributes it to José Demetrio Rodríguez (C. Aedo, pers. com.) ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ). Clemente labelled the specimen as Althaea hirsuta Linnaeus (1753: 687) , but the correct identification is reported on a label by G. Krebs. Our typification does not imply any taxonomical change.
