Scolothrips brevipilis Priesner 1936: 83 View in CoL
Scolothrips hartwigi Priesner 1950: 53 View in CoL syn.n.
At the time that Priesner described hartwigi View in CoL , he knew brevipilis View in CoL only from a single poorly preserved male that had been collected in Sudan. In contrast, the interpretation of brevipilis View in CoL here is based on a series of both sexes from Yemen identified by Richard zur Strassen (in SMF). This is a distinctively coloured species ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ), with the sides of the pterothorax and associated internal apodemes brown in contrast to the yellow body. The new synonymy indicated here is based on a comparison of the specimens from Yemen with the types of hartwigi View in CoL from Transvaal, South Africa, together with specimens collected subsequently in that area (in SMF).
