M.E. Bacchus ( BMNH); 1 male, Sandakan district, Ulu Dusun [5°47'N, 117°46'E], 8.x.1973, leg. C.J.M. Pruett ( BMNH); 1 male, Sandakan [5°51'N, 118°3'E], up to 1898, leg. D. Cator ( BMNH).
Discussion. Differs from its congener H. luteipennis by larger tegmen with subcosta and radius regularly curved, not sinuate, the hind wings being transparent, not orange, and in details of the male epiproct, cerci and subgenital plate. The phallus of H. luteipennis has not been described; thus a comparison is not possible.
Description. Fastigium verticis triangular at base with dorsal furrow; almost vertically descending to tuberculate tip; separated from fastigium frontis by a shallow gap (Fig. 1I). Lateral ocelli large. Fastigium frontis triangular with apex subobtuse. Pronotum with posterior margin subtruncate; disc with rounded angles, only near apex nearly angular; paranota about as long as high to longer than high; humeral sinus distinct. Tegmen moderately wide with anterior margin curved in basal half; in apical third anterior and posterior margins subparallel; tip rounded (Fig. 2H).
Male. Stridulatory area of tegmen about oval with oblique anterior margin (Fig. 3A). Stridulatory file on underside of left tegmen very little concave; 0.87–1.02 mm long; teeth wide, in basal quarter very dense; separation of teeth gradually more distinct towards preapical area; with 70–87 teeth, equating 80–91 teeth per mm; at base with 10.3–13.5, in middle with 5.4–5.8 teeth per 0.1 mm (Fig. 4I). Mirror on right tegmen in anterior area deeply depressed; 1.17–1.23 mm long, 0.85–0.98 mm wide; index length: width 1.26–1.44. Second abdominal tergite moderately prolonged behind in middle; second to fourth tergites in central areas densely covered with hairs (Figs. 3B, 9C–E). Tenth abdominal tergite furrowed in midline. Epiproct widening towards apex; furrowed in basal half; apical margin truncate or slightly concave with laterally projecting obtuse angles (Fig. 6I). Cerci little curved, with approaching lateral margins; at apex with large, compressed, acute, internal tooth (Fig. 6I). Subgenital plate with central area prolonged; split from behind for less than half of its length into two narrow, triangular, little deviating, subacute lobes (Fig. 6J). Phallus with a pair of coarsely granular sclerites that consist of a longer internal and a shorter but wider external lobe (Fig. 16B).
Coloration. Yellowish brown, probably green when alive. Scapus and pedicellus with black band on external side or at both sides; pedicellus also with a narrow black apical ring; flagellum with spaced annulation. Vertex and pronotum uniformly green. Stridulatory area of tegmen with large brown spot behind hind margin of stridulatory vein but included veinlets of light colour; stridulatory vein light brown; remaining part of dorsal field with a narrow black line often interrupted and partly composed of dots, accompanied on lateral area by piles of black dots and continued on projecting part of hind wing. Legs with genicular area of femur, third tarsal segment and apex of fourth tarsal segment darkened. Fore tibia with black strokes in tympanal area.
Measurements of male (5 males). Body w/wings 26–29; body w/o wings 11–17; pronotum 3.3–4.0; tegmen 20.0–21.5; hind femur 11–12; hind wing 21.5–24.0 mm.
