New records. The numerous new records we examined from Spain and Portugal were included in a map available online (https://www.iucnredlist.org/species/86859903/87312604#geographic-range).
The species was described by Mulsant (1858) based on two specimens, one from Var Department (afterwards probably considered as type locality) and another from Sicily, which actually refers to the I. sicula n. sp. This specimen, not examined by us, could be selected as lectotype after ist examination, now not possible. Several records from the Iberian Peninsula and southern France were published (e.g Mulsant, 1857; Pic, 1898; Mayet, 1903; Caillol, 1919; Magistretti, 1942; Allemand, 1995; Vázquez, 2002; López-Pérez & Vázquez, 2016). Fig. 8 View FIG summarizes the numerous records from literature and collections of this species.
Taxonomic remarks. Male genitalia of this species are illustrated in Figs. 2e, f View FIG . The aedeagus is more curved and thicker, differently than in the Maghrebian and the Sicilian species. Tarsal claws are distincly hooked ( Figs. 2g View FIG , 3c View FIG ).
