Pristomyrmex quadridens Emery View in CoL HNS , 1897
Material examined: Leyte: Baybay, Leyte State University, c. 50 m, Lago-Lago River, 19.III.2005, leg. H. Zettel & C. Pangantihon (# 421), 44 [worker] (CZW, NHMW, USC) .
First record for the Philippines!
Diagnosis of worker: TL 3.3 - 4.1 mm. Clypeus ventrally with median tooth. Masticatory margin of mandible with diastema. Dorsum of head and alitrunk smooth and sparsely foveolate; foveae on head large. Pronotal spines tooth-like about as long as propodeal spine. First gastral tergite without setae.
General distribution: Previously known from New Guinea and some nearby islands (Ceram, Ambon, etc.); Wang (2003: fig. 162) postulated an allopatric distribution of P. quadridens HNS and the closely related species P. brevispinosus HNS , which is also recorded from the Philippines. As shown in this study, the two species have an overlapping distribution in the region "Greater Mindanao".
