Hadropenaeus lucasii (Spence Bate, 1881) View in CoL ; Kim et al. 2010: 321, fig. 1.
Material examined. Sakthikulangara (off Kollam 8°56′60.78″N; 76°32′34.27″E) fish landing center, Female specimen (Total length: 62 mm; Carapace length (CL): 15 mm; Rostral length (RL): 4 mm; Weight (W): 2 g, 200–230 m depth during January 2020.
Diagnosis of specimen from off Kerala: Rostrum short reaching up to the first segment of antennular peduncle. Rostral upper edge straight and almost horizontal, with six teeth including the epigastric tooth. The last two are more distant and above the gastric region. Epigastric tooth and first rostral tooth separated by equal intervals. Eye not large, carapace is glabrous. Postorbital, antennal, hepatic and branchiostegal spines well defined. Cervical sulcus prominent; hepatic sulcus shallow. Third abdominal segment has a well-developed rounded mid dorsal carina while keel like mid dorsal carina present on fourth to sixth somites. Telson has a pair of lateral immovable spines. First pereopod with long spine on basis and ischum and a small spine at mid-length of merus. Dactylus compressed. Second pereopod with long spine on basis. Fourth and fifth pereopods with anteromedian small spine on each coxa. Thelycum between the 5 th pereopods having square like hallow plate and anteriorly 1 pair of boss with long setae, posteriorly strong plates are extend in both the sides ( Fig.1 View FIGURE 1 ).
Coloration: Carapace reddish, abdomen and appendages pale reddish.
Distribution: Indo-West Pacific region: Mozambique to Indonesia, northwestern and eastern Australia, Madagascar, Japan to Hawaii and Wallis and Futuna Islands; 121–698 m ( Dall, 2005; Crosnier, 1984) Southeastern waters of Jeju Island at 77 m ( Kim et al. 2010).
Remarks: Hadropenaeus lucasii is closely allied to its two Atlantic congeners, H. affinis and H. modestus , but it may be distinguished from them by the possession of a conspicuous carina on the rostrum dorsal to the adrostral carina. The specimens analyzed herein do not differ much from the description of Kim et al. (2010), Bate (1881) and Pérez Farfante (1977). The present specimen is considerably larger than the one described by Kim et al., (2010) (CL- 8.4mm) and smaller than the one described by Bate (1881) (TL— 76.2mm). The species described by Kim et al., (2010) and Bate (1881) had seven rostral teeth including the epigastric tooth, while the present specimen has six rostral teeth, including the epigastric tooth.
Mitochondrial gene sequencing: The gene sequence obtained from the present specimen was deposited in GenBank (Accession Number: OK571387, OK571388) showed a sequence length of 480–540 bp for 16S ribosomal RNA (16S) and COI (Accession Number: OK569849, OK569850) with 600–610 bp.The present specimen sequences were compared with the NCBI sequences of the genus Hadropenaeus retrieved from the GenBank. The level of intraspecies genetic divergence within the specimens of the present and sequences deposited to GenBank was 0% (COI) and 0–0.6% (16S) and were used for constructing the phylogenetic tree ( Fig.2 View FIGURE 2 & Fig.3 View FIGURE 3 ).
