Pseudokuzicus (Pseudokuzicus) platynus Di, Bian, Shi & Chang View in CoL sp. nov.
( Map 1 View Map 1 , Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 )
Male. Body small. Fastigium of vertex conical, apex obtuse, narrower than scape of antenna, with 1 thin longitudinal furrow. Eyes oval, obviously protruding. Apical segment of maxillary palpi slightly longer than subapical one or with same length, apex faintly enlarged.
Pronotum short, anterior margin straight, posterior margin angularly rounded, metazona flattened, lateral lobe longer than high, humeral sinus indistinct ( Fig. 2A – B View FIGURE 2 ).
Femora of all legs unarmed on ventral surface. Procoxae with 1 spine, internal and external sides of ventral surface of protibiae with 4 spines separately; tibial tympana open on both sides, oval. Mesotibiae equipped with 5 spines separately on internal and external sides of ventral surface. Genicular lobes of postfemora with apices obtuse; posttibiae with 23 – 25 spines and 25 – 27 spines on internal and external sides of dorsal surface separately, 1 pair of dorsal apical spurs and 1 pair of ventral apical spurs.
Tegmina abbreviated, not reaching apex of postfemur, narrow and long, apex angularly blunted, most part of stridulatory area of tegmina covered by pronotum, hind wings shorter than tegmina.
Tenth abdominal tergite moderately broad, posterior margin slightly raised in middle, with 1 pair of long processes, apices obtuse ( Fig. 2C View FIGURE 2 ). Cerci cylindrical, slightly exceeding posterior margin of subgenital plate, curved inwards, feebly bifurcate at apex ( Fig. 2C, E View FIGURE 2 ). Titillators long and broad, distorted in middle area, apices very acute, titillators exceeding apices of processes of tenth abdominal tergite ( Fig. 2C–E View FIGURE 2 ). Subgenital plate subrectangular, longer than broad, posterior margin with 1 small medial notch or comparatively straight, styli small, obtuse apically ( Fig. 2F View FIGURE 2 ).
Female. Cerci conical, apices acute. Ovipositor stout at base, moderately curved upwards in apical half, ventral valvulae slightly longer than dorsal ones, apices indistinctly hooked ( Fig. 2G – H View FIGURE 2 ). Subgenital plate broad, posterior margin rounded ( Fig. 2I View FIGURE 2 ).
Coloration. Body variegated. Fastigium of vertex darkish brown, frons black, external margin of antennal scape and pedicel brown, each segment of flagellum with some black rings, eyes brown. Pronotum with 1 black brown stripe on each margin on disc, lateral lobes brown. Tegmina brown, with some irregularly dark brown spots. All tibiae with two or more brown rings, and spines on them darkish brown, external margin of profemora with darkish brown annular stripes; tympana area darkish brown. Male Cerci dark brown in distal half, titillators and other parts yellowish brown.
Type material. Holotype: male, Yaoluoping, Yuexi , Anhui, 27 – 29 July 2007, collected by Yi-Bin Ba, Jun-Tong Lang and Feng-Yan Wang . Paratypes: 3 males and 3 females, Yaoluoping, Yuexi , Anhui, 27 – 29 July 2007, collected by Yi-Bin Ba, Jun-Tong Lang and Feng-Yan Wang ; 1 male, Yaoluoping, Yuexi , Anhui, 2 August 2007, collected by Yi-Bin Ba, Jun-Tong Lang and Feng-Yan Wang ; 1 female, 18 – 19 July 2007, collected by Yi-Bin Ba, Jun-Tong Lang and Feng-Yan Wang; 1 male, Lushan , Jiangxi,? July 2006, collected by Qian Fang ; 1 male, Liangfengya, Foping , Shaanxi, 3 September 1989 , collectors unclear.
Measurements (mm). Body: ♂ 10.6–11.2, ♀ 10.7; pronotum: ♂ 3.6–3.7, ♀ 3.8; tegmina: ♂ 11.2–11.8, ♀ 11.4; postfemora: ♂ 8.8–9.2, ♀ 9.0; ovipositor: 8.9.
Discussion. The new species is very similar to Pseudokuzicus (Pseudokuzicus) pieli ( Tinkham, 1943) , but it differs from the latter in: male titillators long and broad, exceeding apices of processes of tenth abdominal tergite, apices very acute; cerci shorter, slightly exceeding posterior margin of subgenital plate ( Fig. 2D – E View FIGURE 2 ).
Etymology. The specific name comes from the morphology of titillators in lateral view, which are broad in center area and very acute apically ( Fig. 2E View FIGURE 2 ).
Distribution. China (Anhui, Jiangxi, Shaanxi).
