Peromyia extensa Berest, 1991 View in CoL
( Fig. 4A–C View FIGURE 4 A – C )
Material studied: holotype male and paratype female, with the data specified in the original description ( Berest 1991a).
Peromyia extensa is a distinct species, probably of the P. sanguinea (Kieffer, 1894) group ( Jaschhof 1998). It is only known from the type specimens, which serve here to supplement the original description with several diagnostic characters not mentioned there. In the holotype male, the gonocoxites are unnaturally elongated due to the method of preparation, so their actual outline is difficult to assess.
The eye bridge of the male is 2–3 ommatidia long dorsally; postocular bristles form a single row; the neck of the third flagellomere is clearly longer than the node, which, apart from setae, bears a single whorl of long hairshaped sensilla medially ( Fig. 4B View FIGURE 4 A – C ); wing vein R1 is 2.5 times longer than Rs; the costa extends beyond R5 for 1–2 times the vein width; empodia are the same length as the claws; the gonocoxites have an asetose portion ventrobasally ( Fig. 4A View FIGURE 4 A – C ); the elongate, slightly bent gonostyli are concave medially and have conspicuosly large microtrichia apically; and the elongate tegmen has a distinct ventral shield whose semicircular anterior margin is conspicuously darkened, and whose posterior portion is narrower and shorter than the tegmen itself. The female of P. e xt e ns a, of which the third flagellomere is depicted here ( Fig. 4C View FIGURE 4 A – C ), is certainly not distinguishable from other Peromyia females.
