Type Locality: " Jamaica ".
Vernacular Names: Jamaician Hutia.
Synonyms: Geocapromys brachyurus (Hill 1851) .
Distribution: Jamaica.
Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable.
Discussion: Sometimes includes G. thoracatus from Little Swan Isl (see that account). Reviewed by Anderson et al. (1983). Karyotype has 2n=88; FN=136 ( George and Weir, 1972 b).
