scientific name

Helianthus giganteus L.
status

Helianthus giganteus Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 905. 1753.

"Habitat in Virginia, Canada." RCN: 6544.

Lectotype (Reveal in Jarvis & Turland in Taxon 47: 362. 1998): Clayton 109 (BM-000038159).

Current name: Helianthus giganteus L. ( Asteraceae ).

Note: Long (in Rhodora 56: 200. 1954) indicated unspecified material in LINN (but presumably Herb. Linn. No. 1024.8) as type, but that sheet lacks a Species Plantarum number (i.e. “6”), was a later addition to the herbarium, and is not original material for the name.
