Protolychnis Meyrick, 1925 View in CoL

Type species: Protolychnis maculata Walsingham, 1881 . The genus Protolychnis Meyrick has shorter antenna, but it is no doubt that the genus belongs to Lecithoceridae . The gnathos of the male genitalia bent downward. The forewing venation is similar to that of Lecithocera , but differs from it by the absence of M 2 in the hindwing. The genus belongs to the subfamily Torodorinae by having a strongly developed uncus, and it is distinguished from Thubdora Park by the forewing venation with M 3 free from the stalk of CuA 1 and CuA 2. Three species of the genus are known in the Afrotropical Region: P. chlorotoma (Meyrick) from Malawi, P. marginata (Walsingham) from Gambia, South Africa, and Sudan, and P. maculata from central to southern Africa. P. trigonias Meyrick which was described from Queensland, Australia, is the only known species outside the Afrotropical Region.
