Nemoura brevipennis View in CoL group

Nemoura brevipennis Martynov View in CoL , N. elegantula Martynov View in CoL , N. martynovia Claassen View in CoL and N. taurica Zhiltzova View in CoL were already treated as a species group by Zhiltzova (2003). I also integrate herein N. uncinata Despax View in CoL , N. dromokeryx Theischinger View in CoL , N. aetolica Zwick View in CoL and Nemoura asceta View in CoL sp. n. This group differs from the other members of the genus by the apical part of the epiproct ring bearing two distinct lobes ending in lateral horns and by cerci having a strong, acute apical hook. The latter character also demonstrates affinity of the brevipennis View in CoL group with the N. marginata View in CoL group sensu Aubert (1946); however, the members of this group have less distinct lobes on the epiproct ring.

The group has a circum–Pontic distribution, excepting N. uncinata View in CoL , which is distributed in the European Mediterranean area. Nemoura elegantula View in CoL is known from the Caucasus, N. brevipennis View in CoL and N. martynovia View in CoL from the Caucasus and Anatolia, N. dromokeryx View in CoL from Anatolia, N. taurica View in CoL from the Crimean Peninsula, Anatolia and the Aegean islands, N. aetolica View in CoL from the Greek mainland and N. asceta View in CoL from northern Albania ( Fig 103 View FIGURES 103 – 105 ).
