Flintiella triaena sp nov.

Diagnosis. Male of Flintiella triaena sp. nov. is very distinctive with no clearly similar congeners. The trident-like subgenital plate bearing 3 digitiform processes fused basally and heavily sclerotized apically in ventral view are unique to the new species.

Description. Male. Length 1.5 mm (Holotype, from front of head to apices of folded wings). General color pale yellow (in alcohol). Head without modifications. Antennae without modifications, each with 18 articles. Tibial spur formula 0-2-3. Fore- and hindwing venation reduced to basal veins. Mesoscutellum with transverse suture. Metascutelum rectangular, short and wide. Abdomen without visible modifications. Segment VII without mesoventral process.

Male genitalia. Abdominal segments VII and VIII annular. Segment IX reduced ventrally; in dorsal view, with anterolateral margins developed as slender, elongate rods extending through segment VII; with pair of setose lumps near posterior margins subdorsally ( Fig. 3B, 3C View FIGURE 3 ). Segment X membranous, fused with dorsum of segment IX; in dorsal view with deeply incised apex ( Fig. 3C View FIGURE 3 ); in lateral view oblong and with ventral membranous lobe ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ). Subgenital plate in ventral view resembling trident, broad basally, narrow at midlength, bearing 3 digitiform processes fused basally and heavily sclerotized apically; mesal process slightly narrowed medially ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 , sg); in lateral view, lateral processes overlaid, only one process visible ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ). Inferior appendages subrectangular in lateral view, thicker basally, tapered and blunt apically ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 , ia); in ventral view, each with mesal margin irregularly and obliquely tapered from midlength to acute apex; holotype with inferior appendages spread posterolaterad, possibly as result of KOH treatment ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 ). Phallus tubular, deeply divided distally, each lobe spatulate subapically and narrowing to acute apex; ejaculatory duct protruding mesally ( Fig. 3D, 3E View FIGURE 3 ).

Female, larva, pupa and egg. Unknown.

Distribution: Brazil (Pará).

Etymology. The specific name “ triaena ” is a noun in apposition (from the Greek feminine noun triaena = a trident) referring to the subgenital plate resembling a trident in ventral view.
