Endemic to the Atlantic Forest ( Sobral et al. 2009) from the northeast to southern regions of Brazil ( Govaerts et al. 2010, Sobral et al. 2010, Proença & Sobral 2006). In the Northeast, it occurs in the States of Bahia ( Sobral et al. 2010), Alagoas ( Lemos et al. 2010), Pernambuco ( Amorim & Alves 2011a), and Sergipe.
Trees 3–8 m tall. Morphologicaly similar to Myrcia splendens , but differs by having acuminate calyx lobes, a glabrous hypanthium and subglobose to globose fruit.
