Taxonomy. Microcebus arnholdi Louis et al., 2008 View in CoL ,
Madagascar, province of Antsiranana, Montagne d’Ambre National Park and Forét d’Ambre Special Reserve (approximately 12° 31° 28-1” S, 49° 10° 22-8” E, 990 m above sea level).
This species is monotypic.
Distribution. N Madagascar, known only from Montagne d’Ambre National Park and Forét d’Ambre Special Reserve, NW of the Irodo River. View Figure
Descriptive notes. Head-body c.12:6 cm, tail 10.6-13.6 cm; weight 45 g. The Montagne d’Ambre Mouse Lemur is a medium-sized mouse lemur. Dorsal pelage is a mixture of dark brown, red, and gray, with the tail being dark brown near the tip. There is a dark-brown dorsal midline stripe that runs to the base of the tail. The ventral fur is white to cream with gray undertones. The head is predominantly red with dark brown on the muzzle and surrounding the eyes and a white nose ridge that stops at the distal end of the muzzle.
Habitat. Montane rainforest.
Food and Feeding. There is no specific information available for this species, but undoubtedly fruits and insects are eaten, and possibly other items identified in the diets of other members of the genus.
Breeding. There is no information available for this species.
Activity patterns. The Montagne d’Ambre Mouse Lemur is nocturnal and arboreal.
Movements, Home range and Social organization. There is no information available for this species.
Status and Conservation. CITES Appendix I. The conservation status of the Montagne d’Ambre Mouse Lemur has not been assessed on The IUCN Red List. However, at the IUCN/SSC Lemur Red-Listing Workshop held in July 2012, the Montagne d’Ambre Mouse Lemur was assessed as endangered due to its small extent of occurrence and ongoing decline. It is known to occur in Montagne d’Ambre National Park and Foret d’Ambre Special Reserve.
