Diagnosis. Margin of dorsal shield usually indented at level of setae S5 giving the posterior margin of the shield trilobate appearance, dorsal shield usually with strong reticulation or rugose ornamentation; sternal shield usually with posterior projection; female ventri-anal shield vase-shaped, often with lateral lobes at level of anus; some forward migration of setae JV2 and ZV2, setae JV1 inserted on anterior margin of shield; seta Z4 longer than distance between its base and that of seta S4; fixed digit of chelicera with large prominent teeth evenly distributed along digit; calyx of spermatheca broad; peritreme usually extending to level setae j1; male with three pairs of pre-anal setae arranged in a triangular pattern ( Chant & McMurtry, 2005a).
