Typhlodromips mukomeriensis El-Banhawy & Knapp n. sp.
( Fig. 23 View FIGURE 23 )
Material examined. Holotype female, Mt. Kenya, the main forest area, altitude 2400 m, July 16, 2004 (El-Ban-
hawy). Paratypes: 1 male, Castle Front Lodge , Mt. Kenya, altitude 1990 m April 2005 (M. Knapp); 1 female, Mararia Forest station, Mt. Kenya, altitude 2540m, Kenya, July 14 2004 (El-Banhawy) .
Female: Dorsal shield 320 long, 180 wide (L/W ratio 1.8: 1), with lateral striations and five pairs of pores. Measurements of dorsal setae: j1 18, j3 28, j4, j5, j6 7, J2 10, J5 6, z2, z4, 7, z5 5, Z1 9, Z4 42, Z5 78, r3, R1 10, JV5 37. Setae Z4 and Z5 serrated, remaining setae smooth. Peritrematal shield fused anteriorly with dorsal shield, reaching level of j1. Sternal shield smooth, distances between St II-St III 58, St II-St II 64, St IV on platelets. Genital shield 80 wide. Ventri-anal shield pentagonal, 100 long, 74 wide, with a pair of crescentic pre-anal pores mesad to JV2 and three pairs of pre-anal setae (JV1, JV2, ZV2). Two pairs of metapodal platelets, two pairs of sigillar sclerites and four pairs of setae surrounding ventri-anal shield. Fixed digit of chelicera with eight teeth, movable digit with three teeth. Spermatheca calyx saccular, 12 long, atrium inconspicuous. Macrosetae, Sge II 26, Sge III 35, Sge IV 65, Sti IV 21, St IV 70. Chaetotaxy: genu II 2, 2/0, 2/0, 1, genu III 1, 2/1, 2/0, 1.
Male: Chaetotaxy of dorsal shield as in female. Ventri-anal shield reticulated, 110 long, 150 wide, with a pair of crescentic pre-anal pores and three pairs of pre-anal setae. Spermatodactyl L-shaped, shaft 18 long.
Remarks. This species is similar to T. bladdderae Denmark & Evans. Differences in the dorsal chaetotaxy, number of teeth on fixed digit and macrosetae on leg IV separate these species.
