Material examined. Kenya, 2 females, marine station of the University of Nairobi, Moana, Diani Beach , Mombasa, June 26, 2005 (El-Banhawy) ; 1 female, Wyaundo Island, Nyanza province , December 7, 2005 (El-Banhawy) ; 2 females, Taita Hills, Coast province , July 2, 2006 (El-Banhawy) .

Female: Dorsal shield smooth, 250 long, 150 wide, with seven pairs of pores, a large pair associated with z5, and a lateral incision at level of s4. Measurements of dorsal setae: j1 40, j3 80, j4, j5, j6, 2–3, J5 9, z2 9, z4 5, z5 3, Z1 6, Z4 83, Z5 138, s4 127, r3 46, R1 39, JV5 70. Setae j3, Z4, Z5, s4, r3, JV5 long, strongly serrated and stout, remaining setae minute. Peritrematal shield fused anteriorly with dorsal shield, reaching level of j1. Sternal shield smooth, posterior margin straight, distances between St I-St III 65, St II-St II 60, St IV on small platelets. Genital shield 96 wide. Ventri-anal shield smooth, 100 long, 55 wide, with a tiny pair of pre-anal pores close to lateral margin, and three pairs of pre-anal setae (JV1, JV2, ZV2). A thin longitudinal sigillar sclerite and four pairs of setae surrounding ventri-anal shield. Metapodal platelets not present. Fixed digit of chelicera with 8–9 teeth, movable digit with two teeth. Spermatheca shallow, calyx dish shaped, 5 long, atrium enlarged. Macrosetae spatulate with enlarged tip, Sge II 10, Sge IV 28, Sti IV 40, St IV 40; 40. Chaetotaxy: genu II 2, 2/0, 2/0, 1, genu III 1, 2/1, 2/0, 1.

Remarks. The female holotype was collected at Chembur, Bombay, India, December 3, 1959 ( Narayanan et al., 1960). Additional records include Brazil, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, and from Africa, Burundi, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda and Zaire ( Swirski & Schechter, 1961; Pritchard & Baker, 1962; El-Banhawy, 1984; El-Banhawy & Abou-Awad, 1991; Moraes et al., 2007a).
