Type Locality: Indonesia, C Sulawesi, Gunung Tambusisi, Tambusisi Damar , 4700 ft (1432 m).

Vernacular Names: Watts's Sulawesi Maxomys.

Distribution: Known only from 4700-6000 ft (1432-1830 m) on Gunung Tambusisi, C Sulawesi.

Conservation: IUCN – Endangered.

Discussion: A distinctive species that is morphologically isolated from all other Sulawesian Maxomys except possibly M. musschenbroekii ; assessing its phylogenetic relations to other species in the genus will require systematic revision of Maxomys (Musser, 1991) .
