Inermestoloides flavus View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 15–17 View FIGURES 11 – 17. 11 – 14 )

Description. Holotype male (?). Integument dark-brown, except for: mouthparts yellowish; base of antennomere IV reddish-brown; apex of antennomere VI yellowish; antennomeres VII–XI yellow; about basal two-thirds of profemora reddish-brown; about basal third of mesofemora reddish-brown; apex of ventrites I–IV narrowly yellowish.

Head. Frons transverse; moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate; with yellow, dense pubescence, obscuring punctures, interspersed with long, sparse setae. Area between antennal tubercles, upper eye lobes, and center of vertex with longitudinal band with yellow, dense pubescence (this band not distinctly connected to pubescence on frons, and not reaching anterior margin of prothorax); remaining surface with short, sparse setae; punctures as on frons. Longitudinal sulcus not distinct. Antennal tubercles with sculpture as on frons; pubescence yellowish-brown, notably sparser than on frons. Area behind eyes moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate; tumid close to lower eye lobe; pubescence yellowish-brown, dense close to eye, sparser toward prothoracic margin. Genae with pubescence as on frons, except for glabrous area close to apex. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.4 times length of scape; distance between lower eye lobes in frontal view 0.8 times length of scape. Antennae as long as 1.6 times elytral length; reaching elytral apex about middle of antennomere IX; scape and pedicel with long, thick, dark setae dorsally and ventrally; antennomeres III–VI with thick, long, dark setae ventrally; antennomeres VII–X with thick, long, whitish setae ventrally, and some long setae dorsally (shorter, sparser than on ventral side); antennomere XI with thick, long, whitish setae throughout; antennal formula based on antennomere III: scape = 1.12; pedicel = 0.40; IV = 1.16; V = 0.88; VI = 0.76; VII = 0.76; VIII = 0.76; IX = 0.64; X = 0.56; XI = 0.60.

Thorax. Prothorax transverse, 1.3 times wider than long; lateral sides slightly tumid before middle. Pronotum coarsely, abundantly punctate; with wide, dense band with yellow pubescence laterally; remaining surface with short, sparse, yellowish-brown setae, interspersed with very sparse, long setae. Lateral sides of prothorax coarsely, abundantly punctate; with short, sparse yellowish-brown setae. Ventral side of thorax moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate; with yellowish-brown, moderately sparse pubescence. Scutellum with yellowish-brown pubescence, denser close to apex. Elytra coarsely, densely punctate throughout; with yellowish-brown, distinctly not dense pubescence, interspersed with long, moderately abundant setae; apex individually rounded.

Abdomen. Ventrites with yellowish-brown (more whitish depending on light), abundant, but not dense pubescence; apex of ventrite V rounded. Legs. Femora with yellowish-brown pubescence (more whitish depending on light), interspersed with long, sparse setae. Tibiae with yellowish-brown pubescence, interspersed with moderately abundant, long setae.

Dimensions (mm). Holotype male (?). Total length (including mandibles), 4.20; prothoracic length, 0.80; anterior prothoracic width, 0.85; basal prothoracic width, 0.95; largest prothoracic width, 1.05; humeral width, 1.35; elytral length, 3.05.

Type material. Holotype male (?) from BRASIL, Pará: Jacareacanga, X.1969, F. R. Barbosa col. ( MNRJ).

Etymology. Flavus , Latin = yellow. Allusive to the wide bands with yellow pubescence on pronotum.

Remarks. Inermestoloides flavus sp. nov. differs notably from the other two species of the genus by the lateral yellow band of pubescence on pronotum, and by the antennomeres VII–XI entirely yellow. In I. praeapicealba and I. rumuara the pronotum lacks this yellow band, and the antennomeres VII–XI are, at most, ringed with yellow.
