Type Locality: Brazil, Bahía, Ilha de Madre Deos, Itaparica (near Salvador).

Vernacular Names: White-spined Atlantic Spiny-rat.

Subspecies Trinomys albispinus subsp. minor Reis and Pessôa 1995

Subspecies Trinomys albispinus subsp. serotinus Thomas 1921

Distribution: States of Sergipe, Bahía and Minas Gerais (NE and SE Brazil).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt) as Proechimys albispinus .

Discussion: Reviewed by Pessôa and Reis (2002). Karyotype has 2n=60 and FN=116 ( Leal-Mesquita et al., 1992). Divergent from other forms of Trinomys ( Lara and Patton, 2000).
