Lectotype (Goldblatt in Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 61: 288. 1974): Herb. Linn. No. 669.10 ( LINN) see above, right.

Current name: Papaver orientale L. ( Papaveraceae ).

Note: Wijnands (Bot. Commelins: 160. 1983) incorrectly attributed typification using a Tournefort collection to Cullen (in Davis, Fl. Turkey 1: 221. 1965), where it is unclear if a specimen is intended. A Tournefort collection would in any case not have been studied by Linnaeus and would not be original material for the name.
