Hölzel (1980) recorded this species from Niger based on the examination of a single male indicated as being in the MNHN in Paris that I could not find (borrowed and not returned). According to Hölzel, this specimen is labeled Koulouba III/1916, a locality that is probably not in Niger but in Mali. Moreover, the type specimen of S. dogon View in CoL nov. sp. was identified as S. virgilii View in CoL by Hölzel who confused both species. Based on these data I did not include S. virgilii View in CoL in the area covered by this study. More information and material is needed to confirm the eventual presence of S. virgilii View in CoL in the Sudano-Sahelian region. Pending further information, the area of distribution of S. virgilii View in CoL includes Sudan, Somalia, Sinai Peninsula, Saudi Arabia and Socotra Island ( Stange, 2004).

Material examined. Holotype ♀ SOMALIA It., Eil [7.98082 49.81510] 1930, Pr. Franchini leg. ( MSNG). ISRAEL Sinai Wadi Watir, 1♂ larva collected on 08.ix.1976, pupa 11.vii.1978, adult 07.viii.1978, D. Simon leg., C 181 ( NHMW).
