( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A–C)
Specimens examined. Holotype: male. CHINA: Guizhou Province, Guiyang, Institute of Biological Research, Guizhou Academy of Sciences , sweep-net, 1.IX.1987, leg. Chikun Yang ( ZAFU). Paratypes: CHINA: 3 males, same data as holotype, but 3.IX.1987 ; 1 male, Guizhou Institute of Forestry Science , sweep-net, 7.VIII.1987, leg. Xuemin Zhang ( ZAFU). (Some errors were found in the original description of the type series after checking the labels. The specimen information of the holotype in the original description was exactly the same as here provided, and the information of all the paratypes provided here were different from those in Yang et al. (1993)) . Additional material: 6 males, Zhejiang Province, Longwang Mountain , VII.1995 ; 3 males, same data, but light-trap 20.VIII.1995 ; 1 male, same data, but IV.1996, leg. Hong Wu ; 1 male, same data, but 12.V.1996, leg. Hong Wu ; 2 males, Zhejiang Province, Linan, Jixian Village , sweep-net, 15.XII.2011, leg. Kai Shi [ SM01799–1800 ] (The drawings are based on SM01799 ) ( ZAFU) ; 1 male, Zhejiang, Linan, Taihuyuan, Jinyou Village , sweep-net, 28.IV.2016, leg. Remarks. In the original description of the species, the authors stated that the diagnosis of B. chenjinae was comparable to that of the similar species Bradysia chunmeiae Yang, Zhang & Yang, 1993 , without specifying the characters of the two species in detail, while the latter species was characterized by its light colour and antennal characters. After comparing the type specimens of both species, we found that the two species are quite different, in that B. chunmeiae has no distinct subapical dorsal lobe on the gonostyli and a rather short neck of the antenna (neck length/width: 0.22–0.41), whereas B. chenjinae has a distinct subapical dorsal lobe on the gonostyli and a longer neck of the antenna (neck length/width: 0.82–1.26).
Etymology. This species was named after Prof. Chenjin Yang for supporting Prof. Chi-kun Yang’s insect investigation in Guizhou Province in 1987.
