"Habitat in Europa ad ripas lacuum, fluviorum." RCN: 7732.

Lectotype (Hauke in Nova Hedwigia 30: 423. 1978): Herb. Linn. No. 1241.6 ( LINN) .

Generitype of Equisetum Linnaeus (vide Britton & Brown, Ill. Fl. N. U. S., ed. 2. 1: 39. 1913).

Current name: Equisetum fluviatile L. ( Equisetaceae ).

Note: Fernald & Weatherby (in Rhodora 23: 43. 1921) stated that the identity of the name "is fixed by the existence in Linnaeus’ herbarium of a specimen … labelled by him with the descriptive phrase assigned to E. fluviatile in the Species Plantarum ". No sheet there appears to carry this information so this statement cannot be accepted as a valid type choice.
