Distribution. Nearctic. Canada: NB. USA (NCR): NH (NSR).
Collection and Habitat data. In NH specimens were captured by window, flight intercept, and pitfall traps. Also taken in Rhododendron litter, beech litter, rotten wood, in a pine-oak barrens, and by sweeping Maianthemum canadense Desf. Adults were taken from April to June and from September to October. In Canada collected in Lindgren funnel traps in a red oak forest and a hardwood woodland near a seasonally flooded marsh; some flying individuals were collected with a net in a mixed forest opening; four were sifted from litter at the entrance of a groundhog ( Marmota monax ) burrow ( Webster et al. 2016).

Comments. Some Atheta alesi and A. cranberriensis were collected in the same trap during the same time period. The two can be readily separated by the different shape of the male tergite VIII (for illustrations see Klimaszewski et al. 2018).
