References. Rey 1866. Lohse et al. 1990. Klimaszewski et al. 2011, 2018. Webster et al. 2012. Brunke et al. 2021.
Distribution. Holarctic, recorded from AS ( Klimaszewski et al. 2021. Canada: LB, MB, NB, QC. USA: AK, NH (NSR).
Collection and Habitat data. The NH female was captured in dwarf Salix , Vaccinium , and leatherleaf litter at an elevation of 1584–1737 m. In Canada this species is found in various marsh habitats; in vegetation in seasonally flooded marshes, in leaf litter and grass litter under alders in a Carex marsh, in woody litter at the base of a dead red maple in a Carex marsh (probably an overwintering site), and in leaf litter in a red oak marsh surrounded by a completely flooded marsh ( Webster et al. 2012, Klimaszewski et al. 2018).
Material. USA, New Hampshire, Coos Co.: Mt. Washington above tree line, 5200–5700’, 10.IX.1987, J.M. Campbell and A. Davies, dwarf Salix , Vaccinium , leatherleaf litter ( CNC), 1 female .
Comments. Females of this species may be confused with other species of Boreophilia , and particularly those of closely related B. islandica (Kraatz) . Associating females with males is considered here to be the most reliable way of identifying females of B. eremita and B. islandica . Male/s from NH are needed to confirm this record.
