Distribution. Nearctic, transcontinental, recorded from A/S ( Klimaszewski et al. 2021). Canada: LB, NB. USA: AK, NH (NSR).

Collection and Habitat data. In NH this species is typically found on the margins of springs, streams, or in the mist zone of waterfalls. Found on Sphagnum , mosses, crawling on rocks around streams, and in leaf litter along the stream margins. Collected from May to September. In AK found in Populus tremuloides , P. balsamea , and Picea forest; on snow fields; in leaf litter of alpine Caltha , Salix, Valariana shrubs; and under rocks near snow fields ( Klimaszewski et al. 2021). In Canada found in northern conifer forest (boreal forest; spruce, balsam fir, some yellow birch), old-growth northern hardwood forest, old mixed forest; adults can be seen in the wet moss on rocks in or on margins of small shaded spring-fed brooks with mossy margins, where they are sometimes common ( Klimaszewski et al. 2021). In LB found in moss along a brook ( Klimaszewski et al. 2011).

Comments. This species differs from B. parvipennis in having the body broader, more convex, more glossy, and the elytra are at most slightly longer than the pronotum The shape of male tergite VIII is distinctive, and the stem of the spermatheca is extremely elongate. The shape of the spermatheca of B. websteri is similar to that of B. lagunae Lohse , but the loop is much longer and thinner, and the capsule is broader apically in the former species.
