. Phlegmariuruslancifolius (Maxon) B. Øllgaard (2012b: 16) View in CoL View at ENA . Fig. 15
Lycopodium lancifolium Maxon (1913: 177) View in CoL .— Huperzia lancifolia (Maxon) Holub (1985: 74) View in CoL . Type:— PANAMÁ, Humid forest along the upper Caldera River, near »Camp I«, Holcomb’s trail, above El Boquete, Chiriquí; on fallen branch of forest tree, 1450–1650 m, Maxon, W. R. 5627 ( US 676072 holotype; GH, NY isotypes) a plant in BONN-Nessel 389, has an isotype label, but the plant is Huperzia tubulosa View in CoL .
Pendulous, 20–30 cm long. Shoots ca 10–15 mm in diam. incl. leaves at the base, homophyllous or gradually slightly heterophyllous, in distal divisions sometimes tapering to ca 3–5 mm. Stems excl. leaves 0.5–1 mm thick at the base, angled by decurrent leaf bases. Leaves borne in irregular alternating pairs or whorls of 3, and some borne singly. Leaves of basal divisions ascending or loosely appressed, often twisted at the base, linear-lanceolate, attenuate, somewhat falcate distally, 7–10 × 1–1.5 mm, almost flat or slightly convex adaxially, herbaceous, with flat or slightly revolute, smooth margins, with evident to somewhat prominent vein. Leaves of distal divisions usually gradually shorter, narrower and more appressed, broadest at the base, 3–7 × 1 mm. Sporangia ca 1 mm wide.
Distribution:—Endemic. Known only from the type locality above El Boquete, Chiriquí.
Habitats:—Epiphyte in humid forest. 1650–1925 m elev.
Note:—In several features intermediate between Phlegmariurus taxifolius and P. linifolius . Resembling P. tubulosus , but with more acute, elliptic proximal leaves.
Phlegmariurus lancifolius V.T.Tran & N.V.Duy is a later illegitimate homonym for a Vietnamese species.
Specimensexamined:— Chiriquí: Holcomb’s Trail above El Boquete, 1650–1925 m, Maxon 5638 (MO, US).
