The holotype is deposited in NMPC (ex coll. V. Balthasar):
HOLOTYPE (♀): ‘ Neu - Guinea / Irian (1956) / Mimika [hw] // Onthophagus / mimikanus n.sp. / Balthasar / J 66 [hw] / Holotypus [p, ochreous label]’.
Current status. Valid species.
Remark. BALTHASAR (1969) reported the holotype as a male. Nevertheless, subsequent examination by KRIKKEN & HUIJBREGTS (2013) proved it was a female.
